Launch of CcMS.Mobile (Idler Management) Edition

As the global economy improves, the resource market in Australia moves from strength to strength. This being said mining companies are now investing time, effort and money in condition monitoring, reliability engineering and asset management. The costs in implementing preventative maintenance strategies in the long run are outweighed by the reduction in RM costs and the increases in OEE.

On a recent trip to Mackay, QLD, we met with a number of conveyor engineers and condition monitoring advisors within Rio Tinto, BMA Coal and Anglo Coal. The response to our Conveyor Condition Management Software (CcMS) was very positive and the market is now expecting value added services from their suppliers and are in tune with the latest advancements in technology. We are pleased to announce CcMS is now installed at sites within PWCS, OneSteel, Anglo Coal, Xstrata Coal and Peabody Energy.

Idler Management Module, use of PDA Technology

news-ccms.mobile-launch.P1.jpg Idlers are often overlooked and not managed effectively on sites. Idler management practices tend to be “adhoc” and many sites struggle to get feedback particularly from external contractors on the number of idler and structure failures per conveyor. As sites move to improve maintenance standards, idler management and the associated risks from failure are obtaining much interest.

Idler management strategies are aimed at minimizing downtime and risks associated with idler and idler related failures. The Idler Management module of CcMS provides a mechanism for capturing, reporting and analysing idler failures through:

  • Date tracking of failures from capture to replacement.
  • Generation of work management reports for planning & scheduling replacements of failures.
  • Statistical analysis of failure modes and failure locations.
  • Performance reporting on timely replacement of idler and structure failures.

Traditionally idler failures are recorded using a conventional two part waterproof tag. Whilst tags are a simple and effective means for recording failures, they are still somewhat time and labour intensive in the transfer of data from the tag to a desktop application.

Productivity Development Solutions has developed a PDA application for our Idler Management module. This allows failures to be recorded digitally in the field and synchronized with the desktop application. This innovative use of technology simplifies the management of idler and structure failures and has been an integral step in our development of CcMS.
